Seeking Experienced Mods
Are you an experienced mod with an interest in supporting one of these communities or bringing over an existing community from Reddit? just reach out to @[email protected] to chat!
A Fediverse home for developers
Are you a Lemmy app developer looking for a home community on the Fediverse? We can help with that! Just send us a link to your Github or Play Store product page. We would be happy to host a community for you, including moderation support! No cost, of course. Just reach out to: @[email protected].
Imo I feel like given the size of the community there is too much segregation. All these android related topics should all just be in /c/android until we reach a critical mass that more organization is required. No one will bother to subscribe to all of those with 0 engagement… And plz don’t delete posts we are so small here! As long as it isn’t spam I’m ok with questions etc. here. The rules shouldn’t be the same as reddit as the community isn’t the same (at least not yet).
agree. this is one thing I hate about discord communities too, so many servers have like a million channels but minimal activity. like, you’re killing your own server by segregating everything.
Totally agree.
Day after day the mods delete questions and force users over to askandroid, a community with only ~250 subs and 8 active users a day.
The main community had about 10 new posts within the last 24hrs. A few questions would not hurt at all (5 within the last 24hrs)
We unfortunately don’t have the ability to tag posts on Lemmy, which would allow people who don’t want to see certain content to filter them out. Similar to memes (which we posted a discussion thread about), there tends to be a love it or hate it opinion on specific questions.
There are pluses and minuses to each approach, but Separating it out means folks can choose whether to subscribe to one or both - with them appearing together from the subscribed view.
I’d also just flag that viewing a community subscriber count from a different instance will only show you the number of folks subscribed from your same instance.
For example, [email protected] has 762 subscribers. You’d have to visit lemdro.id/c/askandroid directly to see the cumulative count (although subscribers from certain instances may still not appear correctly).
But I do understand wanting more eyes on any particular question, but it can often be better if the folks seeing the post are the ones who have intentionally subscribed for that content. Happy to revisit this with an discussion thread in the near future though!
The metrics I quoted may not be precise, but they are still representative. How many more subs does android have on your instance compared to askandroid?
That aside: Just look at the post & engagement numbers!
My argument is that, at the moment, the community is too small for so many specific sub-communitites. And this approach sends users into oblivion.
Most of the deleted questions aren’t even reposted in the other sub, and if they are get way less responses.
Yeah, I definitely didn’t mean it as a rebuttal. It’s just an observation I recently also shared with mods who weren’t sure if things were bugged out or not (we have a few modding from different home instances). One of the many Lemmy quirks!
I do know there are folks who would actively unsubscribe from [email protected] if it were loosened up, but I do take your point. I’m checking in with fellow mods (time zones are tricky) about the option of posting up a community discussion thread on this. Thanks for the input!
Hello everyone, why the mods are removing genuine posts? I know they break some rules you have. TBH there are too many rules, and this is very early stages of lemmy so don’t be so strict. You guys are doing a too good job in my opinion.
These are the same mods from the Android subreddit. That should answer everything you need to know.
I understand why they are strict on Reddit. The sub is huge, but here, they are imo too strict considering how small the platform is.
I’d give you a genuine answer, but I’m afraid these mods will ban me like they banned me from Reddit for having a negative opinion about Samsung.
I’m so glad we gave these mods power of the Android community on Lemmy. Way to go, us!
The cool thing about this platform is that we can just leave. There’s another android community at [email protected]
I can’t believe [email protected] shut down
It was shut down by the mods running the android community here.
[email protected] is reopening on 7/24 though
there’s also [email protected] and [email protected]
Honestly, I’m okay with them banning people for being negative, there are SO many places you can go to do that if you want to, especially with all the servers here on Lemmy.
You think it’s okay to ban someone for being critical about a specific Samsung device because a mod is a fanboy of it?
You can be critical without being negative.
I’ve looked into it and can confirm /u/JshKlsn was temporarily banned for rude comments directed at others on /r/android. For the record, the mod who actioned it does not use Samsung devices.
Oh I’d love to see exactly how you got banned. Chances are it was for a tad more than just “having a negative opinion about Samsung”.
Hey there, if you would like to pass me your username on Reddit I’d be happy to take a look for you. We have folks who very much dislike Samsung so that shouldn’t have been an issue - and if it was, it was an oversight.
My user name on reddit is ST3RB3N666, can you tell me why you permently banned me? I tried to reach you, but you completely ignore me.
I don’t care about your ban, but at least tell me why did you ban me?
EDIT: as expected, no response.
Strange. I only received a notification for this reply when you edited it just now. Not sure if it’s due to the recent lemmy.world outage. I’m on my way to the office at the moment but will definitely take a look this afternoon.
Edit: I’ve taken a look. It appears you were banned for spam.
- You commented “Thank, I will definitely think about it in the future” as the first response to a spam bot post advertising third-party MagSafe accessories. This was your first comment on /r/Android.
- Your follow-up message to modmail followed the same format as typical spam accounts and was archived.
- 13 days ago, you randomly sent a mod mail, “fuck you”, which triggered automatic Reddit filtering.
Of course, after 3 months of no response you deserve “fu#k you”.
So you banned me, because I was honestly interested in an accessory, gotcha.
Spam? I didn’t read the content policy, but I doubt I violated any rules with only one comment, can you kindly elaborate?
This was my PM to you after you banned me. Does it look like a bot? It was just a formal way to communicate, since you are a moderator.
Can ask why did you ban me? Spam? Can at least explain or you don’t care? What ever am out
Those are my follow up messages, where you muted me for 28 days right after.
I m sorry for the “fu#k you”, but you honestly deserved it, since you could take 5 minutes to explain yourself, but you decided to ignore me instead.
I was gonna leave the platform anyway, so I decided to flip you off as last act as rebellion 🤣
Have a great day and good luck with the instance. 🤙
Same, got banned for “spam”, even though I am pretty sure I never broke any rules.
I asked for more reasons then, but they straight up ignore and mute me for 28 days.
I will never subscribe to anything related to the old reddit mods.
I am glad I am not the only one thinking this way.
I think they just removed my post. I don’t think it broke any rules?
Hi there, I hope you were able to catch some of the other comments but memes are captured under rule #3:
Describe images/videos: Please provide an explanation in the self-post body when sharing images or videos. Memes are not allowed.
Sorry for the late reply, I was away for much of the weekend until yesterday and thought we had gotten a reply out to you. Based on this discussion, we created [email protected] as a compromise between folks who want memes and those who do not. We’ve been aiming to find a balance between being more lenient during this period while also remaining responsive to user reports, which we did receive for yours.
You can typically find an explanation of the removal reasons in the modlog (when accessed from the community sidebar). Unfortunately, Lemmy doesn’t seem to be handling user notifications too well but hopefully this improves in the near future.
Edit: Apologies for the multiple posts. App went haywire on me… Lemmy growing pains!
This is exactly the kind of shit I was worried about when people were talking about attracting reddit mods to Lemmy.
Good thing we can create or go to an alternative Android community. Any good ones ATM?
There is [email protected] and [email protected] that I’m already subscribed to.
I feel bad for you. Deleting a post which has already has a around 250 points, and around 60 comments SMH. Either delete them early or write a comment warning.
My points keep getting reset every couple of days, so I don’t care too much about that. I think I was making a valid point though. Obviously people were pretty engaged with it.
Cool thing about lemmy is if these mods want to be jerks, I’ll just go to another android community on another instance.
Thanks for this feedback! Based on this discussion, we’ve created [email protected] as a compromise between folks who want memes and those who do not. Hope that helps! We’ve definitely been aiming to be a bit more lenient as things take shape while trying to also be responsive to user reporting.
Always happy to check in again for a pulse check. Hopefully Lemmy can implement a better way to let directly notify folks when a post is removed, but in the meantime everyone can access the modlog from the community sidebar. Please let me know if not!
Absolutely floored at how active this instance & community is. It’s like I never left Reddit.
Cheers!!
Lemmy is pretty cool but I’ll have to admit the overall user base is too small for now. Don’t get me wrong I want this to replace reddit but there simply isn’t enough communities to fill every niche like reddit. The communities that fill a specific niche that I am subscribed to on here have less than 100 users.
@User17w9a @Clipboards I disagree. Are you looking at all communities or just lemmy.world? As long as you are looking across the fediverse there are plenty, in fact, way more than reddit.
The number of subscribers you see in an app or in the web shows subscribed from your instance only. The real number of subscribers can be much bigger. But yes, it is not even close to Reddit scale and coverage.
Which subs? A lot of subreddits I used to enjoy are now just a shell of what they once were.
It really depends on your interests. If you like Linux, Android, or some leftist topics, Lemmy is quite good. But most other fields are still lacking
you used URLs for your subreddit links but fwiw you can make links clickable for users from other servers by linking to (/c/[email protected])
Links should be clickable for anyone since 0.18
If you can’t click those links then your client is at fault
the ones in the op are web links
Ah, why would they do that? You don’t have to link anything. [email protected] - no formatting
oop, that’s even more convenient
I’m a bit late replying to this but that was actually a wefwef bug. The links are in fact the ones automatically generated by LemmyUI when typing [email protected] (it provides a popup with autocomplete options).
Can we get a fairphone one?
I would love to follow a fairphone community
Make one community for androidapps
Yep, the AndroidApps & AndroidGaming subs were very active and very informative
I would like to recommend Motorola . Also why are there so many deleted comments already?
deleted by creator
Is there an android gaming community anywhere?
Not that I’m aware of, but Android gaming is welcome on the main [email protected] community as well!
Unfortunately no:'(
I think it would be great if there was a PC hardware sub as part of this instance, since it is all about tech.
How would a PC hardware community on this instance differ from the ones on other instances? Lemmy is still pretty small so to me it makes sense to have users flock to one community.
We do have some c/BuildaPC subs on lemmy if you’re interested in joining :)
Good to be here! I’m going to try calling this instance my home because of my love of all things Android, its relatively small instance size, and my last instance’s service availability being quite poor.
Hm. Checked few of listed communities - only automated link posts to the related news sites… Not exactly what I would expect from a community.
They’re shooting themselves in the foot by fracturing the conversations like that if you ask me. If there were a million subscribers here it would be a different story but the sub is still growing and it’s just making it harder to talk to people.
Unfortunately none of it is automated. They’re fresh ones and we are working on bringing over more of the Reddit counterparts.
:) Ok, not yet automated. But most of these communities look like an RSS feeds from the news sites. May be interesting for people who want to have everything in one place, but I’m more interested in more personal posts.
Has lemmy.world been defederated from lemdro.id? When I log into this community using my lemmy.world main account I can’t see anything.
EDIT: In case anyone else is having this problem, the issue was my language settings. Despite having “Undetermined” set as a language, that was the problem - I clicked the little “X” to unselect any languages and then saved, and now it’s working again.
Thanks for sharing! Pretty strange.
Slightly off topic but why can I access the google and Samsung one from vlemmy but not askandroid?
Eg this link doesn’t work: https://vlemmy.net/c/[email protected]
Edit: link works now ¯\(ツ)/¯
Try searching for https://lemdro.id/c/askandroid from vlemmy. You might be the first subscriber on that instance.

Maybe a GrapheneOS one? That’s what Android/AOSP should be like, in my opinion. Private, secure, and putting the user in charge of the OS. Not sure if it has the userbase for a community, though.
[email protected] exists
Thanks. I guess I should’ve searched first, but it’s handy that I can predict the past.
As an aside…I just tried to post there, and that Community has disabled new posts. It’s one person posting stuff with no comments, so it’s closer to a delayed RSS feed than a community for discussion and interaction.
Also, as you mentioned, that’s on lemmy.ml and not lemdro.id where this post was asking about Communities here.
Make one for androidmasterrace and androidcirclejerk.
