  • So by the landlord analogy, if you were to “steal” the image and save a copy, you’d be the equivalent of squatters?

Except the comparison between “stealing” an NFT and squatting is the same as between pirating and movie and stealing a car, in that the owner of the digital object doesn’t actually lose anything like the physical one does.

Also not the other person, also depressive, my take:

Adoring support of my dysfunction is the opposite of what I need. Yes, it’s fucking uncomfortable when my wife keeps nagging and prodding me to do things until the discomfort provides the willpower to overcome the suffocating listlessness and get my ass in gear, but at least it gets me doing something instead of helplessly drowning in the mountains of “I should, but can’t” piling up around me.

If the only thing that breaks me out that sense of powerlessness is to prove to myself that I do have power to do something, I need someone to coerce me into doing something, not coddle and enable the demon leeching all energy and joy from me.

My wife gets pissed when I don’t do my part, and while I wish she didn’t have to, I’m glad she does.

I have a spare SSD (messing with which was the subject of my aforementioned FAFO), so I’m not opposed to trying new things. I’ve also heard about layering and ostree before, but never taken the time to understand them in depth. Maybe when I’ve next got some time off, I’ll spend a day or three toying around with it. It’s been a while since my last distro hop (currently using Nobara, so Fedora isn’t entirely new ground to me).

If I did want to mount something at boot in the manner of fstab – putting aside the “why”, this is just technical curiosity – what would be the idiomatic way to achieve that?

  • I think it would be less of an issue if human slavery and all its attendant and resultant issues were actually firmly a thing of the past. It could become a “clinical”, accurate way to describe technical constellations where one component is strictly subordinate to another, if it didn’t have the connotation of ongoing human rights issues.

Not saying it’s the best or the only option for the terminology, just wondering aloud whether the callback would be an issue if the topic wasn’t still so raw and sore.

    On one hand, you’re right.

On the other, this guy makes for a wonderful scapegoat to deflect all the bigots blaming minorities. I don’t think public discourse has much of a bearing on his judicial fate, but it does have a bearing on public opinion on related topics. If blaming him gets the fash to shut their hateful gobs for once, I think that’s an acceptable sacrifice.

He’s a politically convenient suspect, but this time it’s for our convenience, and in this world, I see no reason to play by the rules of justice and truth if our enemy doesn’t obey them either.

Besides, I find it hard to feel sorry for a gun nut if they get charged with gun crimes.

  • Well, the only social media profile I have under my name is a decade-old facebook profile, if it still exists. Then again, they might not believe that, or otherwise not trust someone with no social media presence.

Aside from the obvious fact that I wouldn’t want to give them any pins, passwords or blood samples either.

It’s a shame because I’d love to visit some places and people in the US some time, but not for the foreseeable future…
