Oh well aware, just making a joke since you mostly see people comment that they run arch or bazzite or nix or whatever while around and about on here. The reality is just as you say, there are many, many, many folks on Debian stable.

I’d say MX Linux or a well tweaked arch install.

MX is pretty snappy on an Intel compute stick I recently set it up on. One sec I’ll grab my old comment for specs.

I did do a bazzite setup for my BIL recently, but thats an edge case. Debian + KDE is what I run mostly too, so its not much of a surprise I’d use it for others either.

I just installed bazzite on a spare box over the weekend, with a bunch of cobbled together old nonsense I had laying around, and gave to a family member.

… I have a feeling the 1050 I tossed in there is just old enough to not be a problem.

Though it seems the r9 270x in on of my PCs is *toast. So it looks like my quadro 2000 is going in that machine. Or, fuck it, the even more ancient 5770 I have.

I don’t play very recent games though.

So top, IMO, is Reaper. Not FLOSS, but the developer has consistently had a reasonable user price set, you can download and install free, you get a short nag screen. If you like it, buy it.

Yup. MS has been more blatant and ruthless, where Apple has quietly taken (or even just taken credit for) the works of others over the years. For Apple you’ve got the ipod click wheel (creative), the original GUI (PARC), slide to unlock (noenode)… Apple, much like MS, has been doing this sort of stuff from the start.

If the individual is the only one in charge of the project, and controls the money, there really isnt a difference.

Michael Sweet of Easy Software Products developed CUPS in the late 90s. Apple hired Michel Sweet about a decade later and bought the source code.

After he left apple (another 10 years or so later), OpenPrinting forked it and Michael Sweet continued working on it there.

But no, Apple did not develop CUPS. I don’t blame you for thinking they did though.

However, this does not require in-depth review. These are things you can discover with a cursory search that would have taken less time than writing that comment, FYI. I don’t think anyone is sitting here suggesting Kling has grand plans for a gassing center, just that he promotes far right conspiracy theories and other hard-right ideology. This is a simple, easily verifiable statement.
