I am on an older version and I so not looking forward to moving to another launcher.
Nova just so many small useful things that all just work (folder/icon gestures, icon pack support is exemplary).
Rekall is a company that provides memory implants of vacations, where a client can take a memory trip to a certain planet and be whoever they desire.

Is 5,000 mAh a big deal though? My Samsung A73 has 5,000 mAh and it’s from 2022.

American “freedom” themed polemics are such farce in every way imaginable.

The big one for using storage space is 4K video and various video enhancements like ML based Slow Motion (5 min of footage can take 7-8 GB easily).

If they were serious about malware, they would have to permanently ban all Meta apps (potentially even blacklist senior Meta executives so apps from other companies would also be banned if they hired the Meta hoodlums).
But again, Google is a large American technology company; i.e. a rat’s nest of crime, lies and degeneracy.

Robin Liu, the OnePlus executive who recently dismissed rumors of the company shutting down, has now resigned and returned to China. OnePlus has confirmed the news, further stoking rumors about the brand’s future in key global markets.
Looks like they are indeed exiting markets outside of China.

We need non-US technology platforms. US business leadership has proven that they cannot be trusted.

To hell with American technology platforms!
That’s not to say there aren’t (or can’t be) issues with platforms from other countries, but with platforms from US domiciled business entities you are unfortunately guaranteed to end up in a oligarchic quagmire with a giant serving of commitment to dishonesty, crime and corruption.
Even Mozilla became corrupted by US business types.

I am aware of the difference between recovery options and sideloading applications. :) I’ve installed/used LOS (and other ROMs) multiple times and I am a heavy user of F-Droid and its applications.
Just pointing out that this is just one more reason to avoid Android (saying this a Samsung user).

After Google decided to ban sideloading (their alleged “change of heart” is increasingly looking like a PR exercise), I decided to not buy any more devices devices based on American platforms.
My A73 works fine, but I planning to get a Jolla phone later his year. Going to use both in parallel to aid in switching.
I do wish European banks and eGov services started porting their apps to SailfishOS.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am so not looking forward to moving the family off Nova (lots of tech support), but it must be done.

I’ve been using Nova since Android 4.x and I am really did not want to switch, but it sounds like I have no other option now.
It’s going to be a pain; multiple family members use Nova on their smartphones/tablets and they are used to the interface.
Can Lawnchair be customized to replicate Nova?

LibreTorrent worked fine for me when I used it for a few months (I generally use a home SBC and desktop).

It’s funny how American oligarchs wax theatrical about “da AI revolution” and yet they can’t even solve basic issues in an application store or follow their own publishing guidelines (Twitter/Grok CSAM features).
Bunch of liars and criminals.

This is honestly the biggest issue with using American platforms, they are fundamentally unreliable (not to mention criminally corrupt).

I am on Android 16, the A73 might even get Android 17. Even if it doesn’t get 17, I think government/banking apps on Android 16 will be usable for another 3 years minimum.
Who knows, by that time Europe might be forced to dump Android/iOS (as opposed to “wanting” to do it).

Don’t think Play Store is available, but it supposed to run APKs.
We have the same issue with our e-ID and banking apps, they are used for everything.
I doubt our e-ID and banking APKs will work on SailfishOS compatibility mode.
My plan is too keep my current phone specifically for those two apps. Not optimal, but in my case Android/iOS isn’t viable any more.

I am thinking of getting the Jolla Phone:

While the UI Framework isn’t fully open source in SailfishOS, it think in the short to medium term it’s better fit for my use cases; running open source apps whenever possible (currently via F-Droid on Android) and avoiding any app install otherwise unless there is no other option.
Not to mention and I am done with large American companies (especially tech companies or ones that don’t have a local presence).

Rahman made an enormous contribution to covering Android.
I can understand him wanting to move on though, the whole space is nowhere near as exciting as say in 2015. In the last ~5 years it’s been mostly iterative improvement. Even phone hardware has evolved to the point that there is minimal differentiation between the mid-range and flagships other than status (outside of some types of mobile gaming).
For me personally, I am done with Android. My A73 works great, any new phone I buy will not be tied to American corporations (to the extend possible), so no Android or iOS.
