Stabilize for anyone unfamiliar is
Probably not going to die in the next 24 hours from easily identifiable injuries.
Because then they can become liable.
You can be very unhealthy with multiple broken bones, cancer, be dying softly and still be “stable”.
They are legally required to stabilize you. That is to say, they they will not heal you, they’will not cure you. They get you stable enough to get you the fuck out of the door.
If you have cancer. They will not do shit.
If you have a broken bone. They will straighten it, if they can, no cast, and kick you r the fuck out. You will still have a broken bone, and you will still need surgery to heal it.
Been bounced before with broken bones. It sucked.

3·4 months agoAn HDMI cord will pull itself out
A screwed in connector will rip the pins off the board. There is no extra strength there.
The difference is you can just plug the HDMI back in. You aren’t reattaching the pins to the mobo

But I get a strong feeling it is going to be all-in-one like the Quest. Computer and Battery are on the headset.
Deck Verified to now extend to VR titles through this new device. Frame Verified.

402·4 months agoSerious question: Have you ever built a PC?
Because it really isn’t rocket appliances. I would venture your average 12 year old could do it, and has done it given a YouTube tutorial.
All of the connectors only fit one way, and they are all uniquely shaped/sized.
More expensive, Proprietary hardware, sounds like a nightmare for all involved.

3·5 months agoThe Front is daunting. I would not do that without experience
But the back was relatively simple.

2·5 months agoAlternatively replace them if you’re doing the back, and or face, plate swap. I did it with Jsaux Gameboy Purple.
Same result.
I never used them before the swap, and now I use them in every game.
Honestly the deck is always in the case so I don’t see the purple but I do notice the back triggers.

2·5 months agoIt is really nice.
My buddy has the KillSwitch case and I honestly prefer the Jsaux. Nicer texture on the grips.
Also love having the slide for the battery on the back.
I hate dealing with cords so I often plug a battery pack in, use it till I drain the battery pack. Then by the time the pack is full - the deck is almost empty. Rinse, Repeat

I have 2 kids so I basically never know when I’m going to hear “Oh no” and have to take care of it.
I may have to pick up a pair of those reading glasses. What a brilliant idea!

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing?
3·5 months agoAh okay there’s 2 meanings of cases.
There is one for travel - that it comes with.
But there’s one that fits more like an otter box, an in-use case. The Spigen, Jsaux and KillSwitch all do that. Though I’m sure there are rip-offs all over Amazon by now for all 3.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing?
3·5 months agoHard disagree on the case. The Steam Deck is not made to be dropped like your average Game Boy. Far too expensive, and far too fragile.
I have dropped it exactly 1 time, 2 feet off a couch and I had to replace both triggers on one side.
The cases are not expensive. I had the Spigen one for $15 and now I have the Jsaux Mod Case.
The Jsaux Mod Case which is nice because it allows you to slide a battery pack on, and it has a hard screen cover so you can slap it in a bag, and not worry.
But I mostly use it because it allows me to use a lanyard.
Also I’ve never seen the bottom crack “from stress” but again I only dropped it once.
Side note:
It is a heavy device, it is giving me cubital tunnel syndrome from propping my elbows on tables. No idea what to do about it other than play less.

3·5 months agoThe Back Buttons on their own are not great.
IF you are going to do some customization - I highly recommend swapping them out.
I only did the back plate and I keep it in a case so I barely notice the clear purple back but I Do notice the new, and much larger, back triggers. They feel so much better.
