Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•[SOLVED] I will pay you $20 to set up modded skyrim for meEnglish
2·7 days agoThere ARE common mod packs that’s the entire point of wabbajack it even has Linux support.
There is zero fucking effort in modding Skyrim nowadays.
Why does this feel like a copy pasta generated by an ai. And what in the world is up with the weird abuse of the ellipses. It’s three dots for fuck sake! Just three!
It’s more there’s such a over prevalence of pedophiles, groomers and general other assholes among the largest circles of streamers and YouTubers. That they all get washed with the same brush which is not fair to many such as RTGame.
But it’s also the profession at it’s highest levels isn’t actually playing games as a job. It’s being a talk show entertainer. That’s WHAT streaming is.
The video game is the stand in for the guest stars.
There is an inherent disingenuity to the whole performance. At least at the upper levels. While streaming may have started off as just gamer sharing their gameplay and what not, it’s very much not the reality of what it is anymore.
That’s why it’s not fair to paint everybody as an asshole just because they’re a streamer. It is genuinely fair to be distrustful of pretty much every streamer. So long as you’re keeping in mind that not everyone is an asshole even if they are in a horrible industry.
It’s a mentally toxic industry after all. Any form of parasocial entertainment is inherently toxic.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Bazzite surpasses 30k active users, gaining 5k users since two months ago 🎉
1·11 days agoSuggesting anything that isn’t arch based for a gaming focused solution seems stupid as hell to me. No matter how you cut it, there’s a god damn good reason valve picked arch as a base for steam os.
Other solutions are just not going to be as good. Will they work? Sure you could game in Debian for heaven sake and be perfectly fine.
But it’s just more possible problems. Gaming is basically the exact inverse of non cutting edge. It’s the exact worse case where even bleeding edge may not be new enough to properly support things even months after release.
If your playing 10 year old games anything does fine, but other wise your updating packages to what might be newer then your distro supports regardless as which point why arnt you just on arch where that’s less prone to explode.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 10 refugees flock to Linux in what devs call their "biggest launch ever"
161·11 days agoDesktops only frankly became remotely useable to normal people with recent revisions of things like kde…
Between that and software actually finally started becoming remotely reliable in like 2022-2023 for your avg windows user.
Comparing the past to now is not reliable fair.
More progress towards making things normal user friendly have happened in the last 3-5 years then the last 20.
If there’s one thing AI is good at is trawling though a hell scape of random data from across time and space. And outputting… Something reasonably close.
Least close enough to actually put you in the right path 9 times out of 10. Even if the ai is wrong, it’s still vastly more time effective then going to stack overflow for this was solved with no solution present.
Hell I had a issue trying to find documentation for a old game I was modding from 10 years ago that maybe sold 1000 copies the wiki was dead the devs site was dead and the way back machine didn’t have the pages I needed.
Some fucking how chat gpt knew the game, was able to identify it correctly from a script I gave it then spat out the exact correct context and documentation I needed.
It was flabbergasting. Cause at the same time it told me the game came out in 1995 when it came out in 2015… It got basic ass info wrong but the technical details right.
I was so fucking confused how it managed that.
The day a open source project has good marketing is the day the end of the world happens.
It’s just impossible for some reason.
Can confirm actively wear sock dream socks now. Best socks I own for daily wear.
Darn tough is also a great sock brand for work socks if you wear boots or enjoy hiking. They come with a life time warranty even!
Between these two my feet are comfy warn and well protected!

6·16 days agoDon’t forget if a previously popular application starts to become unpopular its typically for a good reason! So watching downward trends can also clue you into issues or problems you would not have other wise known.
People dislike change so it takes something decently serious to actually halt momentum.

41·19 days agoThe right answer is,
Debian if they just use web browsers and basic office apps.
Fedora if they use do the same but also use recent hardware that needs a newer kernel
Bazzite if they are a casual gamer and you want to make sure her sims still work easily
Cachy if she’s a nerd and plays a lot of higher end games.
All with kde of course

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•YeetMouse: Kernel module for mouse acceleration on LinuxEnglish
111·24 days agoBecause in theory it’s actually better then no acceleration. There have been a number of fps esport pros that have even demonstrated this to be true.
The problems are two fold tho, one configuring it correctly is so beyond fucky as to be borderline impossible for your avg user. Two you need more complex configuration options then what standard windows allows for at a minimum you need x and y axis as well as the ability to set at least a threshold point.
But if you do take the time to configure it correctly for your screen size, dpi, mouse area, and mouse dpi as well as get software that allows you enough control over the curve.
It’s actually a massive improvement.
Iv personally put that effort in once before and used it for about 8 months. It was a drastic improvement in control.
When I swapped to a new mouse I gave up on it cause it took me like 30 hours to configure it and train with it enough to use it the first time. And doing it every time ANYTHING in my set up changed just wasn’t worth it.
Just using raw and training muscle memory is already enough effort. Adding software config on top is just fucked.
I have a theory that normal monster makes you normal gay, white monster makes you a femboy and berry monster turns you into a lesbian.
Other flavors still under testing.
