What are some solid sites where I can source all of my audio books? Similar to what we have Anna’s archives and zlib for books, pdf .etc
audiobookbay which is open
myanonamouse - a private torrent tracker
it’s the easiest and most generous tracker so I suggest going with them.
How does one go about getting invites to private trackers? I have yet to figure it out. The advice generally given is “know somebody” but I don’t so…
In the case of MAM you go on irc and 3 times a week they hold application interviews. Just read the rules, and you’ll do fine.
Thank you.
I cannot recommend myanonymouse enough.
I can’t either! I got bit by the audiobook big a few months ago and jumped into MAM and it’s been fantastic! Half the books are looked behind their VIP section, but it’s super easy to get that status of your seed consistently. I was given literally 1000s of their bonus points from other members just for hanging around their forums for a few post. Bought my VIP status with the bonus points, and now I log in every month or so and convert my points to top of my VIP status and then dump the rest into my Ratio
What do you use to listen to these audiobooks? I’ve downloaded a copy of my favorite series but no idea what to use to listen to them. I prefer something with some kind of cloud sync between devices but it’s not required and I’m fine self hosting that data in like Google drive or something.
So I got this set up tonight and holy shit. A little confusing at first and currently only available when I’m at home but that’s fine since I can download them like I normally do anyway. But holy shit. It’s Plex for audiobooks. I’m sure there is more for me to do but I’m blown away just from start.
Only question I still have it how the hell did I get the ebooks… I don’t think I have those downloaded but I can just open the ebook right from the audiobook page.
It’s a fine piece of software indeed :)
I don’t use the ebook feature, but you could check the files in the media folder.
Yeah I checked the next day. Apparently that download came with like 3 different versions of each book in ebook format. So freaking cool. Got me to cancel my audible sub finally 😂 now I just need to get into a good site for audiobooks and stuff. Thank you again.
Replying to look at this tonight. Thank you.
I have used cloudbeats and it works pretty well.
Will check it out tonight. Thank you.
There is some startup lag with that site. The whole VIP/freeleach/wedge system is a bit convoluted, but grabbing some popular free torrents and keeping them seeded will get you going in no time. It is easily the best community I’ve seen on a torrent site and those restrictions are probably a big reason why.
Myanonamouse
audiobookbay is my goto and has most everything I have wanted to look for.
How you get an invite to it?
It’s invite only now? The last time I used it there was a simple signup button.
Yes sadly!
I just went to the site to verify. Goto login, and to the left of the user and password box there is a register link. Select torrent download and complete it from there.
Bing search is surprisingly good for magnet torrents
Holy shit use the goddamn search people. This gets posted every fucking day.
Might as well not have a discussion page at all! Everything here is contained in Google so we can just search for any of our questions.
My brother/sister/person, I understand the frustration but let’s not be hostile out here. Honestly I don’t know that every lemmy app has a good intuitive search function inside of a community, so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes asking and making the post is faster than intuitively figuring out how everything here works.
No. Laziness is never an excuse I’ll accept.
Additionally, it hinders the quality of the contents in the feed.
TIL there is a search function for Lemmy.
I pay for and use Scrib everyday andni love it.
Libby and Overdrive. Look at the megathread: https://rentry.co/megathread-books
Mobilism, YouTube, LibriVox
I’m usually on mobile when I’m listening to audio books. Is there an iOS app anyone would recommend? Music focused apps don’t really fit the use case
I import them into the native books app and it’s good enough that I haven’t had a reason to look elsewhere. You might need to sync with a Mac for this to be an option though—I’m not sure if it can be done without the accompanying MacOS books app.
